About the position

We are looking to add an HR Generalist to our Columbus team. This individual will provide overall human resource and benefit administrative support to the assigned location. The HR Generalist will be responsible for benefit administration, payroll, workers compensation, staffing, recruitment, and the general administration of human resource policies and practices. This role actively analyzes and recommends changes to moderately complex location practices and ensures consistent application of HR laws, regulations, and company policies. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, customer service-focused, and a problem solver with a strong overall knowledge of HR practices, laws, and regulations. The HR Generalist will manage benefit administration, which includes answering questions, completing and filing necessary forms, conducting employee training, overseeing new hire orientation and exit processes, and managing open enrollment. Additionally, this role will handle payroll administration, including time, tax, and wage entry, processing payroll information, and managing garnishments. The Generalist will screen, interview, and recommend hire actions, while also analyzing the effectiveness of the recruitment and selection process and recommending changes as necessary. Other responsibilities include completing and filing necessary forms, investigating accidents/incidents, and recommending actions. The HR Generalist will coordinate miscellaneous programs such as health fairs, banquets, picnics, and attendance and recognition awards. They will process HR/Payroll related changes, conduct profit sharing reviews and submissions, and provide merit pay and proper job classification recommendations to managers. The Generalist will work with managers to audit skills/competencies and recommend development/training plans, performance management, and/or discipline to address skill or role deficiencies. They will also recommend and conduct basic existing employee training on topics such as OSHA, sexual harassment, and other related HR training and documentation. Furthermore, the HR Generalist will facilitate employee and supervisor issue/conflict resolution and new hire onboarding, evaluate and administer FMLA and salary plan programs, and investigate, analyze, and recommend changes/improvements to moderately complex processes and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Manages benefit administration including answering questions, completing and filing necessary forms, employee training, new hire orientation and exit process, open enrollment, etc.
  • Manages payroll administration including time, tax and wage entry, processing of payroll information, garnishments, etc.
  • Screens, interviews, recommends hire actions and related documentation.
  • Analyzes effectiveness of recruitment and selection process and recommends changes.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of HR/benefit/payroll administration experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of company programs (benefits, payroll, compensation, workers compensation and human resource programs).
  • Advanced knowledge of human resources laws and regulations.
  • Strong issue and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong problem solving skills.
  • Ability to be assertive with employees and local management.
  • Analysis, critical thinking and investigation skills.
  • Work independently and interact with all levels of employees (production and management).
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.

  • HR certification preferred (i.e., PHR, SPHR).
