The Human Resource Generalist at Old Wisconsin Sausage Co. plays a vital role in supporting the HR Manager across various HR initiatives. This position is essential for ensuring smooth HR operations and fostering a positive work environment. The HR Generalist will be involved in compliance, recruitment, onboarding, employee safety, and recognition programs. This role requires a proactive approach to managing HR functions and collaborating with various departments to resolve staffing and training-related issues. In this position, the HR Generalist will lead recruitment processes for non-exempt, production, and temporary staff, employing innovative strategies to attract top talent. They will manage the onboarding processes independently, which includes conducting background checks, physicals, drug screens, and organizing orientation logistics. The HR Generalist will also conduct new hire orientations and participate in presentations to new employees, ensuring they are well-integrated into the company culture. Additionally, the HR Generalist will maintain vendor relationships with a focus on high-quality service delivery and support HR operations by managing the HRIS, creating documents, maintaining employee files, and managing forms. They will coordinate training activities, including scheduling sessions, preparing materials, and tracking documentation. The role also involves driving safety initiatives by organizing annual retraining, scheduling tests, and collaborating with subject matter experts. Furthermore, the HR Generalist will conduct research on HR-related projects, such as industry benchmarks, trends, and legal compliance, to ensure the company remains competitive and compliant with regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead recruitment processes for non-exempt, production, and temporary staff.
  • Manage onboarding processes independently, including background checks, physicals, drug screens, and orientation logistics.
  • Conduct new hire orientations and participate in presentations to new employees.
  • Maintain vendor relationships with a focus on high-quality service delivery.
  • Support HR operations by managing HRIS, document creation, employee file maintenance, and form management.
  • Coordinate training activities, including scheduling sessions, preparing materials, and tracking documentation.
  • Drive safety initiatives by organizing annual retraining, scheduling tests, and collaborating with subject matter experts.
  • Conduct research on HR-related projects, such as industry benchmarks, trends, and legal compliance.
  • Collaborate across departments to resolve staffing and training-related issues.
  • Monitor and document employee accidents and report recordable incidents to workers' compensation insurance.
  • Maintain and complete OSHA-required logs.
  • Assist with affirmative action reporting.
  • Provide support to other departments as needed.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in communications, Finance, Business, Human Resource Management, or Social Sciences required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in Human Resources or high-volume staffing.
  • Proficiency in employment law and experience with Applicant Tracking Systems preferred.
  • Basic understanding of GMPs, HACCP, and SQF guidelines.
  • High proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in teams or committees.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability with a high degree of confidentiality and accuracy.
