About the position

Newell Brands is seeking an HR Generalist to provide comprehensive HR support and lead HR initiatives for the Distribution and Transportation (D&T) team. This role is pivotal in evaluating the talent needs of the Distribution division and designing effective strategies to meet those needs. The HR Generalist will manage the daily operations of the HR department, which includes hiring and interviewing staff, administering pay and benefits, managing leave, and enforcing company policies and practices. The position requires collaboration with Distribution Center leaders to ensure alignment with organizational goals and compliance with employment laws. The HR Generalist will be responsible for reviewing, tracking, and documenting compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, including safety training and professional licensure. This role involves recruiting and interviewing qualified candidates for open positions, conducting background checks, and facilitating new hire orientations. Additionally, the HR Generalist will handle employment-related inquiries, attend disciplinary meetings, and maintain knowledge of trends and best practices in human resources. This position requires a proactive approach to managing HR programs, including compensation, benefits, performance management, and employee morale. The HR Generalist will also be tasked with maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, ensuring that the organization adheres to recommended best practices. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, organizational abilities, and a thorough understanding of employment-related laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments.
  • Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions.
  • Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Implements new hire and temp orientation and employee recognition programs.
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including compensation, benefits, and leave.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors.
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • At least two years of human resource management experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate them when appropriate.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization's HRIS and talent management systems.

  • SHRM-CP certification is a plus.
