About the position

The HR Generalist position at McLane Company is a vital role within the Human Resources Team, responsible for coordinating daily HR functions and ensuring compliance with company policies and federal laws. This position requires a proactive approach to managing various HR activities, including training programs, recruitment, and employee relations. The HR Generalist will assist in facilitating mandatory training sessions, such as harassment and substance abuse training, and will also be involved in safety training and special classes for teammates. Additionally, the role includes maintaining essential HR records, such as FMLA documentation, Workers Compensation, and safety investigations, ensuring that all documentation is accurate and up to date. The HR Generalist will also coordinate special events that promote team morale and community involvement, such as health fairs and fundraising events. Supporting the HR Manager is a key aspect of this role, which includes ensuring that the employment process adheres to legal guidelines and that all applicants are treated fairly. The HR Generalist will manage job requisitions, develop recruitment strategies, and coordinate career fairs, as well as screen applications and conduct reference checks. Effective communication with supervisors regarding hiring procedures and maintaining the Jobs Box is essential for this position. In addition to these responsibilities, the HR Generalist will promote open lines of communication among teammates, assist in New Hire Orientation, and interact daily with both teammates and managers. This role requires a strong understanding of HR practices, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a diverse and fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and observe in various training programs to comply with McLane Company training practices and federal laws.
  • Facilitate mandatory harassment/substance abuse training and safety classes.
  • Maintain records for logo clothing, relocation billing, FMLA, Workers Compensation, and safety investigations.
  • Coordinate special events such as CMN, United Way, Health Fair, and teammate parties.
  • Support the HR Manager as needed and ensure compliance with employment processes.
  • Manage requisitions and develop recruitment strategies with managers.
  • Coordinate and attend career fairs, review and screen applications, and communicate application status to applicants.
  • Advise supervisors on hiring procedures and arrange pre-employment paperwork and orientation.
  • Promote teammate morale through open communication and policy interpretation.
  • Coordinate teammate meetings and assist in New Hire Orientation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • 2+ years of experience in Human Resources is required.
  • Hands-on experience in training and coaching is necessary.
  • Strong understanding of safety practice guidelines is essential.
  • Proficient in MS Office, including Word and Excel; PowerPoint skills are useful.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft is preferred.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems and conflicting issues diplomatically.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with teammates at all levels.
  • Ability to work in a diverse and fast-paced environment.
