About the position

The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) is seeking an HR Generalist - Leaves and Benefits to join its Human Resources Department. This role is crucial in managing employee benefits programs and providing essential support to employees regarding leave and benefit-related inquiries. The HR Generalist will be responsible for processing leaves and exits, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and policies. The position requires a proactive approach to communication and documentation, ensuring that all leave requests and separations are handled efficiently and effectively. In this role, the HR Generalist will respond to all incoming leave requests, workers' compensation requests, and separations. This includes reviewing, approving, and processing these requests in a timely manner, ensuring that the agency receives the necessary documentation to support each request. The HR Generalist will track all leaves and short-term separations, maintaining ongoing communication with impacted employees and management to ensure a smooth process. Additionally, the role involves collecting documentation for extended leave requests and managing the exit process for staff terminations, including conducting exit interviews and providing guidance to separated employees. The HR Generalist will also be responsible for administering benefits for all employees, ensuring that new hires are enrolled in the benefits program within the required timeframe and that open enrollment transactions are processed promptly. This includes coordinating with HR counterparts to cover the benefits portion of new hire orientation. The position requires effective communication with both internal and external agency partners, including NYCERS, OLR, SNP, union locals, and health insurance carriers, to ensure timely and accurate actions and communications. Additional responsibilities include maintaining various reports related to leaves, separations, and resignations, as well as providing coverage within the HR department as needed. The HR Generalist will perform other related tasks and projects as directed by management, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the Human Resources Department.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to all incoming leave requests, WC requests, and separations, ensuring timely review, approval, and processing.
  • Track all leaves and short-term separations and return dates, maintaining ongoing communication with impacted employees and management.
  • Handle staff terminations and conduct exit interviews, facilitating the exit process and providing guidance to separated employees.
  • Process employee separations, leaves, and terminations in NYCAPS once proper paperwork is submitted and approvals are in place.
  • Collaborate with Labor Relations staff as needed with employee involuntary separations.
  • Issue proper documentation to impacted staff, including leave approval memos and separation memos, and update systems accordingly.
  • Administer benefits for all employees, ensuring proper enrollment for new hires and processing open enrollment transactions.
  • Communicate with internal and external agency partners to ensure timely and accurate actions and communications regarding benefits.
  • Coordinate blood drives, pension seminars, and other related activities.
  • Maintain various reports such as leaves, voluntary and involuntary separations, and resignations.
  • Provide additional coverage within the HR department as needed and perform other related tasks as directed by management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college.
  • Six (6) to eight (8) years of City HR experience.
  • Direct experience handling leaves, benefits, and resignations for city government agency employees.
