About the position

The HR Generalist position at BSNAC Cedar Rapids is a full-time role that plays a crucial part in supporting the company's human resources functions. The individual in this role will lead and support the company's safety values and culture, acting as a liaison between plant management and corporate headquarters on HR-related topics. This position encompasses the full life cycle of recruiting, which includes sourcing, screening, selecting, hiring, and onboarding new employees. The HR Generalist will also conduct new employee orientations, stay interviews, exit interviews, and provide support for disciplinary procedures as needed. In addition to recruitment, the HR Generalist will lead the CR Campus' engagement committee to foster positive relationships and improve employee engagement. Ensuring compliance with legislative requirements is a key responsibility, including areas such as I-9 compliance, poster compliance, minors, wage and hour laws, and substance abuse testing. The role also involves managing temporary recruitment activities and leveraging various recruiting technologies to attract both active and passive candidates. The HR Generalist will provide analytics and recruitment KPI data, maintain knowledge of legal requirements affecting HR functions, and coordinate career fairs to enhance the employer brand. The HR Generalist will serve as an employee advocate, balancing fair labor standards with company policies and business needs. This role requires maintaining accurate employee records, facilitating compensation reporting, and serving as a site liaison for benefits administration. The HR Generalist will also support minor to moderately complex employee investigations and assist in planning company-sponsored events and social functions. This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the company's safety values and culture.
  • Act as a liaison between plant management and corporate headquarters for Human Resources related topics.
  • Perform full life cycle recruiting including sourcing, screening, selecting, hiring, and onboarding.
  • Conduct new employee orientations, stay interviews, exit interviews, and aid/support for disciplinary procedures as needed.
  • Lead the CR Campus' engagement committee to foster positive relationships and improve employee engagement.
  • Ensure legislative compliance in areas such as I-9's, poster compliance, minors, wage and hour, for cause substance abuse testing and annual audits.
  • Manage and lead the plant temporary recruitment activities.
  • Leverage various recruiting technologies (CRM, ATS - ideally UKG, Boolean, LinkedIn and other social media tools) to market and find the best candidates.
  • Provide analytics and recruitment KPI data.
  • Maintain knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions.
  • Coordinate and attend career fairs to build employer brand and attract qualified candidates.
  • Develop, oversee, and maintain controlled documents for HR related functions.
  • Serve as an employee advocate, balancing fair labor standards, company policies and business needs.
  • Ensure compliance with & integration of EEOC requirements into HR and business practices.
  • Responsible for records management including personnel records, medical records, training records and the organization and legal requirements of materials stored in company archives.
  • Establish and maintain a strong working relationship with business line and/or corporate management and employees.
  • Facilitate compensation reporting to necessary parties, which may include workers compensation claims, unemployment claims or other legal entities.
  • Serve as site liaison for benefits including open enrollment, leave of absences, and new hire enrollment.
  • Effectively support minor to moderately complex employee investigation matters.
  • Support in the planning and coordination of any company sponsored events, social functions, and facility tours.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Management or appropriate discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Three years or more of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous recruiting experience and proven ability to interact and recruit at all levels of the organization required.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state and local employment laws, regulations and statutes necessary.
  • PHR Certification or MBA highly preferred.
  • Prior experience working with applicant tracking systems.
  • Knowledge of HR laws, policies and procedures with an understanding of state and federal legal compliance requirements.
  • Ability to effectively evaluate talents, values and attitudes in order to make appropriate selection decisions.
  • Developed office skills, computer experience and competence in using current office software, including advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and email).
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency in a second language preferred but not required - Spanish or French.
  • Professional of Human Resources (PHR) Certification preferred, but not required.
