About the position

The HR Generalist plays a key role in ensuring that Human Resources better serves employees and managers with more efficiency by helping it adapt technology to HR processes. This position is essential in supporting the daily operations of the HR department, which includes handling extremely sensitive situations and information that require a high degree of confidentiality. The HR Generalist will report directly to the Vice President of Human Resources or their designee, ensuring that all HR functions align with the college's mission and operational standards. In this role, the HR Generalist will conduct appropriate training for employees, disseminate information regarding the College's policies and procedures, and maintain human resource information data. This includes compiling reports for various constituencies using software programs and applications such as Commonwealth's data warehouse, internal access databases, Banner, and the Human Resources Compensation Management System (HR/CMS). The HR Generalist will oversee and manage the Personnel Action Request (PAR) process, assist with FMLA/PFML requests, and coordinate various HR functions including resignation management and telework application management. The HR Generalist will also be responsible for administering the tenure process for faculty and staff, guiding internal communications, and effectively delivering strategies to resolve escalated HR operational issues. This position requires a proactive approach to employee relations, fostering a supportive climate for students, faculty, and staff, and developing positive relationships with college stakeholders. Additionally, the HR Generalist will provide leadership in developing consistent employee relation standards and solutions for all employees, contributing to the strategic direction of the college.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts appropriate training for employees, including Request to Employ (RTE) contracts, postings, and Personnel Action Requests (PAR).
  • Disseminate information to employees regarding the College's policies and procedures.
  • Maintain human resource information data and compile reports for multiple constituencies using various software programs and applications.
  • Oversee and manage the Personnel Action Request (PAR) process.
  • Assist with the processing, follow-up, and tracking of FMLA/PFML requests/claims as well as ADA requests.
  • Coordinate PFML Top Off and FML tracking.
  • Research Retirement Buy Back requests and calculate employee creditable years of service for Retirement Board.
  • Manage and organize files in HR Shared Drive.
  • Point of contact for coordination of termination for cause office clean out.
  • Manage resignation processes and telework application management.
  • Handle employment verification and tuition remission forms management.
  • Administer the tenure process for faculty and staff in conjunction with Academic Affairs.
  • Guide internal communications process and resolve escalated HR operational issues.
  • Compose and review departmental correspondence as necessary.
  • Serve as a backup to Recruiting & Benefits Coordinator and Payroll Assistant as needed.
  • Serve as a Grievance Hearing Officer and manage union grievance tracking and scheduling.
  • Assist with calculation and processing of Labor Contract related mass retro payment calculations.
  • Process Worker's Compensation claims and provide necessary follow-up.
  • Serve on college committees as assigned.
  • Foster and maintain a climate supportive of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction consistent with the College's mission, vision, and priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, legal studies, public administration, business administration or a related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in Human Resources administration and/or operations, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to think, reason, and make sound judgments about responsibilities in compliance with college standards and guidelines.
  • Highly motivated, data-driven, and a team player with the ability to work independently with minimum instruction.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Experience working with and supporting a culturally diverse population.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • HR/CMS experience.
  • Prior Massachusetts Community College or higher education experience.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)
