About the position

The HR Generalist at Nucor plays a crucial role in supporting the human resources functions within the Nucor Rebar Fabrication Northeast division. This position emphasizes the importance of safety, which is a core value at Nucor, and requires the HR Generalist to actively lead and uphold safety policies, practices, and standards. The HR Generalist will coordinate and execute various employee benefits programs, manage leave of absence processes, and administer workers' compensation claims. Additionally, the role involves implementing wellness initiatives and providing support for the Human Resources Information System (HRIS). In this position, the HR Generalist will be responsible for administering the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and ensuring compliance with multi-state leave laws, as well as managing the company’s short-term sick pay and long-term disability plans. The HR Generalist will also take a lead role in guiding users on HRIS processes and procedures, ensuring that they align with the overall HR and business strategies of Nucor. The role requires a proactive approach to managing employee relations issues and providing policy interpretation to all levels of staff. The HR Generalist will oversee various employee benefit programs, including medical, dental, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability, 401K, and flexible spending plans. They will develop communication strategies for open enrollment in collaboration with regional HR teams and champion wellness initiatives by preparing materials for monthly wellness and safety meetings. The position also involves managing the leave of absence program, maintaining the HRIS/Timekeeping system, and producing HR metric reports to support decision-making and process improvements. Overall, the HR Generalist will perform a variety of related duties to support the HR department and the business needs of Nucor, ensuring a safe and compliant workplace while fostering a positive employee experience.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and execute division benefits programs.
  • Manage leave of absence processes and workers' compensation administration.
  • Implement wellness initiatives and provide HRIS support.
  • Administer FMLA and ensure compliance with multi-state leave laws.
  • Oversee employee benefit programs including medical, dental, life, and disability plans.
  • Develop open enrollment communication strategies with regional HR teams.
  • Champion wellness initiatives and prepare materials for monthly meetings.
  • Manage the leave of absence program and coordinate with regional benefit administrators.
  • Maintain the Product Group HRIS/Timekeeping system for data integrity.
  • Oversee HRIS support tickets and ensure timely resolution.
  • Provide guidance on employee relations issues and policy interpretation.
  • Act as backup to Payroll Administrator during absences or heavy workloads.
  • Manage the Student Scholarship Program.
  • Perform workers' compensation reporting and manage claims with the WC carrier.
  • Coordinate Service of Process notices for timely administration.
  • Produce HR metric reports and support ad-hoc reporting requests.
  • Perform other related duties as needed in support of HR and business needs.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline with a minimum of 5 years' experience in an HR role.
  • Extensive experience with web-based human resources platforms.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) with reporting capabilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience with SAP/Success Factors.
  • Working knowledge of Dayforce (Ceridian) HR/Payroll Web Application.
