About the position

The Human Resources Generalist at Grower Direct Nut Company is responsible for managing employee time and payroll data, directing benefits activities, and supporting HR goals to provide responsive services to employees. This role serves as a point of contact in the absence of the HR Manager and involves various HR functions including hiring, terminations, and compliance with labor laws.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain employment, pay, and benefit records related to events such as hiring, termination, leaves, or promotions.
  • Responsible for benefit administration of all programs across the enterprise, including employee perks, calculation of bonuses, and COLA adjustments.
  • Collect and input information for payroll, benefit enrollment, and HRIS activities.
  • Keep track of leave time, such as vacation, personal, and sick leave for employees.
  • Record employee information, such as exemptions, transfers, and resignations to maintain and update payroll records.
  • Complete reports including headcount, turnover, and other ad hoc reports.
  • Develop and maintain procedures aimed at improving the quality and delivery of human resources programs/services.
  • Manage bi-weekly payroll process for exempt and non-exempt employees.
  • Review timecards, wage computation, and other information to detect and reconcile any payroll discrepancies.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hours laws and best practices.
  • Serve as a link between employees and operations HR by handling questions, interpreting and administering company policies, and helping to resolve work-related problems.
  • Administer, direct, and review employee benefit programs.
  • Fulfill all reporting requirements of all relevant government rules and regulations, including ERISA.
  • Direct preparation and distribution of written and verbal information to inform employees of benefits and compensation.
  • Coordinate with Accounting to reconcile payroll accounts.
  • Prepare and balance period-end reports and reconcile issued payrolls to bank statements.
  • Prepare and manage annual W-2 processing, monthly/annual ACA reporting, and all year-end activities.
  • Administer IRS requests and EDD processing of unemployment and disability claims.
  • Manage employee 401(k) account and reconcile year-end discrepancies.
  • Assist with any employee-related retirement plan administration questions.
  • Upload bi-weekly 401(k) payroll contributions.
  • Complete annual 401(k) census and annual audit.
  • Coordinate and assist in the annual open enrollment period and process changes within deadlines.
  • Complete annual EEOC reporting.
  • Submit monthly payroll to workers compensation carrier and process premium payments.
  • Assist with annual workers compensation audit.
  • Responsible for tracking LOA.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Human Resource experience including processing payroll in-house
  • Advanced knowledge of current FMLA/CFRA, ACA, EEOC process, tracking and reporting requirements
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish, written and verbal skills are required
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • Experience working with human resources information systems (HRIS), Paylocity preferred
  • Ability to maintain confidential information

  • Excellent written, verbal, time management, and attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and problem-solving ability
  • Organizational skills to write procedures in a logical/methodical manner
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Ability to work independently and carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
  • Effective communication skills, both verbally and orally
  • Ability to collaborate well with others and proactively contribute to group objectives.
