About the position

The HR Generalist will be responsible for a variety of HR activities, including recruitment, selection, and retention of key personnel, as well as identifying training and development needs within the distribution center. The role requires building and maintaining strong relationships with team members and providing quality service to ensure that their HR needs are met. In this role, the HR Generalist will partner with the distribution center team to facilitate various HR programs and initiatives. This includes coaching and counseling team members on HR best practices, assisting the HR Manager in achieving departmental goals, and conducting new-hire orientations and other necessary meetings. The HR Generalist will also maintain personnel records, ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws, and represent HR on cross-functional teams for various projects. The position requires a proactive approach to identifying and recommending new HR programs and policies that contribute to the overall success of the business. The HR Generalist will also be responsible for creating and facilitating training programs that enhance the skills of team members, conducting exit interviews, and translating findings into actionable recommendations. The role demands a strong understanding of HRIS systems, including ProWatch, Oracle, and Kronos, and the ability to maintain confidentiality while effectively building relationships with business partners. The HR Generalist will work in an office environment, with a commitment to working flexible hours, including weekends and overtime as needed, and may require travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with team members to ensure their human resources needs are met.
  • Coach and counsel team members on all aspects of human resources and communicate best practices regarding employee engagement and retention.
  • Assist the HR Manager in the development and execution of department goals and objectives.
  • Identify, assess and recruit hourly talent to staff the facility.
  • Conduct meetings related to business needs, including new-hire orientations and leadership meetings.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to ensure the performance management process is administered consistently and productively.
  • Maintain personnel records and ensure compliance with HR policies and regulations.
  • Maintain all HRIS systems, including ProWatch, Oracle, and Kronos.
  • Create and facilitate human resources training programs that enhance the skill sets of team members.
  • Assess and identify individual or group training needs and administer plans to meet those needs.
  • Recommend new approaches, programs, and policies that contribute to the success of the business.
  • Conduct exit interviews and translate findings into actionable recommendations for the distribution center.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of federal and state employment law and ensure compliance within assigned groups.
  • Represent HR and the distribution center on cross-functional teams for projects and new programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) or equivalent experience is required.
  • Two (2) or more years of progressive HR experience is required, preferably in a retail environment.
  • Effective presentation, written and verbal communication, problem solving, and decision-making skills are required.
  • Working knowledge of state and federal employment law is helpful.
  • Ability to effectively build relationships with business partners and excellent customer service skills are essential.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required; familiarity with Oracle is a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • SPHR or PHR Certification is beneficial.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
