About the position

The HR Generalist at Baker Electric will play a crucial role in supporting the HR Manager in the administration of Human Resource policies and procedures. This position is essential to ensure compliance with company policies, as well as Federal, State, and local regulations. The HR Generalist will engage in a variety of administrative tasks while assisting the HR Manager with various responsibilities. The role demands a high energy level, focusing on administration, compliance, analysis, and customer service. The HR Generalist will assist in the Company Recruiting Program by creating recruiting and outreach campaigns, tracking applicant information, posting job positions, and participating in the selection process. They will also organize and attend job fairs and events to attract potential candidates. In addition, the HR Generalist will support the Training & Development Program by tracking training progress, sending reminders, researching training opportunities, and facilitating training sessions as needed. Another key responsibility includes partnering with the HR and PR teams in the New Hire & Onboarding Process. This involves performing new hire orientation, entering and verifying employee information in HR/PR systems, conducting I-9 verifications, and ensuring that all onboarding components are completed. The HR Generalist will also assist with leave management, benefit administration, attendance tracking, and performance appraisal processes, working closely with department leaders to coordinate these programs. The role will require the HR Generalist to assist in employee relations duties, including document preparation, participating in employee interviews, and maintaining knowledge of HR procedures and policies. They will oversee the background check processes, unemployment hearings, and responses to verifications of employment. Additionally, the HR Generalist will collaborate with HR and Safety personnel to ensure accurate submission of workers' compensation claims and maintain orderly personnel files. The position requires maintaining confidentiality and escalating critical issues to the HR Manager or Executive Leaders as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Assist HRM in Company Recruiting Program, including creating recruiting/outreach campaigns, tracking applicant information, posting and promoting positions, participating in selection process, organizing and attending job fairs/events.
  • Assist HRM in Training & Development Program, including tracking progress of assigned training, sending reminders, researching training opportunities for development, and facilitating any training, as needed.
  • Partner with HR and PR team in the New Hire & Onboarding Process, including performing new hire orientation responsibilities, entering and verifying accurate employee information into the HR/PR systems, performing I-9 verifications, partnering with leaders to verify proper onboarding components are completed and following-up with new hires.
  • Assist HRM with leave management, benefit administration, attendance tracking and performance appraisal processes, including working with department leaders to coordinate and administer programs within their areas.
  • Assist in any employee relations duties in partnership with HRM and other leaders, including assisting in document preparation, participating in employee interviews, researching and preparing pertinent information, assisting employees with interpretations and maintaining over knowledge of HR procedures and policies.
  • Oversee the coordination of the background check processes for the company, including post-offer screens and any customer requirements. Discuss any potential issues with HRM. Partner with leaders who may have a need-to-know and maintain records for future reference. Enter all data into HR system and maintain organization of records.
  • Oversee all unemployment hearing, responses and fact-finding interviews. Work with HRM and other department leaders to gather factual information to submit to applicable agencies.
  • Partner with PR on responses to verifications of employment.
  • Partner with HR and Safety personnel to verify all workers' compensation claims are accurately submitted to insurance company, assists in the maintenance of files and records; and monitors claims with to determine claim status and resolution.
  • Assist HRM in maintaining complete and orderly personnel files, including organizing, sorting, performing audits or special projects, and transmitting information to corporate, as needed.
  • Perform related work as required or directed by HRM or Executive Leaders. Maintain confidentiality of work and any Baker Electric project knowledge.
  • Escalate critical and/or sensitive issues to HRM or Executive Leaders with recommendation for resolution.

Requirements

  • 2 - 5 years' experience in an HR-related capacity; preferably within a construction industry
  • Detail oriented with the ability to multi-task; work with interruptions; and adjust to changing priorities
  • Ability to work well independently as well as cooperatively with others
  • Ability to maintain security of confidential or sensitive information
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Conscientiousness, personal responsibility and dependability
  • Ability to adapt to an office environment and act in a principled, ethical fashion
