We are seeking a dynamic and hands-on HR Manager/Director to join our team in Torrance, CA. This role is pivotal in shaping the HR and back-office functions of a rapidly expanding startup, backed by a well-established global parent company. The position offers a unique opportunity to design and implement HR policies, manage employee benefits, and ensure compliance while fostering a positive workplace culture.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement HR policies, procedures, and systems from the ground up.
• Develop and manage employee benefits programs, compensation structures, and compliance initiatives.
• Handle end-to-end recruitment processes, including sourcing, interviewing, and onboarding.
• Revise an employee handbook.
• Oversee and manage payroll and back-office functions, especially during the initial phase.
• Ensure all operational needs for the startup phase are met, including administrative and support tasks.
• Collaborate with leadership to build an organizational structure aligned with growth objectives.
• Partner with the parent company to integrate resources and align HR practices.
• Prepare for scaling the workforce as the company expands to multiple locations.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for employee concerns, fostering a positive and supportive workplace culture.

Requirements

• Minimum 5+ years of HR management experience, preferably in the restaurant or hospitality industry.
• Proven track record in payroll management and back-office operations.
• Experience working in startups or fast-growing environments is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in HRIS, payroll systems, and compliance processes.
• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities to manage various operational functions.
• Ability to speak and understand Japanese is strongly preferred.
