About the position

The HR Manager at Smurfit WestRock will play a crucial role in the Consumer Packaging Human Resources team, focusing on various HR functions including employee relations, training and development, compensation, recruitment, and performance management. This position aims to provide HR leadership and support to facility operations, ensuring alignment with corporate HR initiatives and fostering a positive organizational culture.

Responsibilities

  • Manage employee relations, communication, training and development, compensation, recruitment, staff planning, performance management, and worker's compensation.
  • Advise management on HR policies and procedures, ensuring compliance and effective implementation.
  • Consult with management on organizational design to enhance business growth and effectiveness.
  • Support talent management and employee development by identifying gaps and creating development action plans.
  • Coordinate with the Compensation Team to administer job evaluations and salary reviews.
  • Analyze employment-related concerns and develop action plans to address issues.
  • Direct and communicate corporate HR policies and ensure legal compliance.
  • Lead and develop a team of 1 to achieve performance excellence.
  • Foster continuous improvement in HR operations and processes.
  • Build and drive a positive company culture in alignment with DEI&B goals.
  • Lead change management efforts and assist stakeholders in navigating transitions.
  • Develop strategic actions that balance people and business initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in HR Management or a related Business degree.
  • 5 - 7+ years of experience in a Human Resources business partner or generalist role.
  • Experience in manufacturing and field/site HR operations.
  • PHR/SPHR certification preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English is beneficial.
  • Strong knowledge of state and federal employment law.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word, and HRIS software.
  • Ability to investigate and resolve employee conflicts objectively.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution.
  • Strong time management, project planning, and organizational skills.
