About the position

We're looking for a talented and energetic Human Resources Manager to join our team at Loyola University, Chicago. The HR Manager coordinates efforts as a business partner to support operations and business initiatives of assigned schools and divisions. The HR Manager is responsible for recruiting, employee relations, labor relations, performance, and talent management. Also coaches and develops leaders to deliver people management capabilities, provides organizational insights to make the best decisions, and mitigates operational risk. This position is located on site. In your first 30 days, you will be introduced to our wonderful HR team and engage in self-driven interactions with departmental leadership and department employees to strengthen HR operations within each department. You will gain an understanding of Loyola's powerful mission and rich community partnerships. Once you find belonging at Loyola, you will provide coaching to department leaders on recruiting practices, performance and talent management strategies, and effective management of employee relations. You will lead employee relations investigations from employees, supervisors, or the Ethics Line and labor relations bargaining for multiple departments. As an HR Manager, you will promote Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) by implementing protocols to ensure our recruitment and hiring practices are inclusive. You will act as a business partner to the HR team and Vice President of HR to succeed in university goals. Additionally, you will assist with the development of policies and procedures regarding employment, staffing, and turnover. You will be the face of HR for the university by attending various university-wide events and department-specific events. Your role will also involve managing the performance improvement process with business leaders, disciplinary actions, terminations, ethics violations, and other types of unprofessional conduct. You will deliver people analytics to business units to enhance their understanding of their department people metrics and facilitate new employee orientation and onboarding, supervisor training, and other training initiatives as needed. Furthermore, you will coordinate and deliver staff/faculty engagement events, projects, and other duties as required, ensuring compliance with all federal and state employment laws, such as EEOC, FLSA, OSHA/Workers' Comp, FMLA, Title IX, ADA, VEVRAA, and others. Finally, you will perform other duties as assigned.

  • Deliver people analytics to business units to enhance understanding of department metrics.
  • Facilitate new employee orientation and onboarding, supervisor training, and other training initiatives.
  • Coordinate and deliver staff/faculty engagement events and projects.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal and state employment laws.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive, professional level HR experience.
  • Demonstrated strong business acumen and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to influence across leadership levels and functions within the organization.
  • Excellent business judgment and demonstrated proficiency in organizational, analytical, conceptual, problem-solving, and leadership presentation skills.
  • A self-starter with the ability to take initiative and work as an effective member of a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • PHR/SPHR certification a plus, but not required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Internet and email applications.
  • Ability to become well-versed with online applicant tracking/position description system (People Admin) and HRIS system (Lawson).
