About the position

The Director of People Operations at UCLA Extension will provide strategic and operational leadership for the Human Resources department, focusing on organizational transformation and quality improvement. This role involves managing employee relations, overseeing HR compliance, and implementing people-centered HR practices. The Director will also supervise various HR activities, including talent acquisition, employee relations, and performance management, while fostering an inclusive work culture.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for the People Operations department.
  • Manage and oversee all aspects of employee relations, including interpretation of policies and laws.
  • Supervise daily operations covering HR Compliance, Culture, Compensation, Payroll, Benefits, and Talent Acquisition.
  • Create initiatives to promote an inclusive and welcoming work culture.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to campus and systemwide HR offices.
  • Oversee compliance for collective bargaining agreements and coordinate classification and compensation activities.
  • Partner in the preparation of personnel budgets and manage HR data trends and analysis.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in human resources management.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws such as FMLA, ADA, and EEO.
  • Experience in a collective bargaining environment and knowledge of labor law.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple groups and manage competing priorities.
  • Experience in developing and managing professional development programs.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and strong commitment to service excellence.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and policy development.
