About the position

The HR Onboarding Specialist at VCU Health System is responsible for providing administrative support and front-line assistance to team members, candidates, and hiring managers throughout the onboarding process. This role ensures compliance with healthcare laws and regulations while facilitating a positive onboarding experience for new hires. The specialist collaborates with Talent Acquisition and leadership to manage various onboarding tasks, including background checks and paperwork completion.

Responsibilities

• Ensure completion of new hire pre-employment requirements including background checks, education and licensure checks, and screenings.
• Request and ensure new hire paperwork is filled in accordance with Joint Commission regulations.
• Demonstrate excellent phone skills for inquiry calls and scheduling appointments.
• Follow up daily on candidates to ensure timely completion of onboarding tasks.
• Build and foster relationships with Talent Acquisition, Hiring Managers, team members, and candidates.
• Communicate with facilities about candidates and their onboarding status.
• Initiate and monitor standard new hire paperwork such as I-9 and compliance forms.
• Demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
• Provide assistance at HR express for in-person onboarding appointments.
• Participate in special projects to support the mission of VCUHS.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of human resources experience in a role requiring customer interaction and problem resolution.
• Excellent listening and communication skills for high-quality customer service.
• Well organized and detail-oriented with the ability to work with all levels within the organization.
• Basic understanding of HR concepts, policies, and procedures.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

Nice-to-haves

• Some college coursework in a related field.
