About the position
The Onboarding Specialist is responsible for managing the pre-boarding and onboarding processes for new hires, internal transfers, and promotions, ensuring a smooth and positive experience from offer acceptance through the first 12 months. This role supports candidates and employees by coordinating pre-hire tasks, maintaining engagement, and providing resources for growth within UNC Health. The Onboarding Specialist interacts closely with candidates, recruiters, hiring managers, and other internal and external partners to support the onboarding journey.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and monitor pre-hire tasks, including background checks, employment verification, health clearance, I-9 verification, and credential verification.
- Issue and manage Incentive Agreements as specified in offer details for eligible candidates.
- Maintain ongoing communication with new hires to ensure a seamless pre-boarding experience.
- Keep accurate pre-boarding records in compliance with organizational standards.
- Maintain regular contact with new hires during their first year, providing support, answering questions, and connecting them to career growth resources.
- Address inquiries from new hires, hiring managers, and HR partners, escalating as needed.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives to enhance onboarding efficiency and candidate experience.
- Participate in special projects or non-routine tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year of administrative experience in a customer service role.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Effective time management and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
Nice-to-haves
- Previous experience in Human Resources or onboarding is highly preferred.

- Pay: Up to $23.00 per hour
- Expected hours: 40 per week
