About the position

The Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia) is seeking a Human Resources Operations Manager to oversee the administration, coordination, and implementation of the day-to-day operations of human resource programs. This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities including benefits management, leaves of absence, occupational health and safety, compliance, HR reporting, compensation, and special projects. The ideal candidate will have a passion for creating competitive, equitable, and inclusive HR programs that enhance the company culture. They will work to identify new operational efficiencies, minimize employment risks, and deliver an exceptional Employee Experience. In this position, the HR Operations Manager will manage and administer all benefit programs for Mia employees, which includes orientation, enrollments, billing, and COBRA. They will also assist in the design and structure of all benefit programs, manage FMLA, MLOA, Work Comp, and ADA claims, and oversee Mia's 403(b) retirement plan. Ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local laws is a critical aspect of this role, as is assisting with the development and design of Mia's Compensation Program. The HR Operations Manager will collaborate with the Head of HR on the Annual Performance Review program and assist with monthly trainings, while also serving on the Accessibility Team and other organizational cross-functional groups. To be successful in this role, candidates must possess excellent attention to detail, project management, and problem-solving skills. They should be able to manage multiple priorities and work under deadlines while exercising professional discretion and confidentiality in handling personnel matters. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to interact positively and professionally with staff at all levels and external customers and vendors. This position is a full-time, exempt role based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and is not eligible for relocation.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and administer all benefit programs to Mia Employees, including orientation, enrollments, billing, and COBRA
  • Assist in the design and structure of all benefit programs
  • Manage all FMLA, MLOA, Work Comp and ADA claims
  • Manage and administer Mia's 403(b) retirement plan
  • Monitor and ensure Mia's compliance with all federal, state and local laws
  • Assist with the development and design of Mia's Compensation Program
  • Serve on the Accessibility Team and other organizational cross-functional groups
  • Act as a back-up for the Payroll/HRIS Manager
  • Collaborate with the Head of HR on the Annual Performance Review program
  • Assist with monthly trainings

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of related HR administration experience with advanced knowledge of administering benefits plans including flex plans, COBRA, and FMLA
  • Minimum of 3 years of employee relations experience, preferably in a union environment
  • Solid knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and compliance requirements related to employee compensation, benefits programs, company policies, and HR operations
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Word and Excel
  • HRIS database management experience

Nice-to-haves

  • Ceridian Dayforce experience helpful
  • Experience working with union contracts and in a union environment
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in business, human resources or related field and 3 - 5 years of progressively responsible experience in employee compensation, benefits administration, employee relations, and compliance
  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS), and Certified Compensation Professional Credentials
