About the position

The HR Operations Manager role at West Fraser is a pivotal regional support position, primarily focused on providing strategic human resource guidance to various business managers within the East region. The successful candidate will be stationed in Cordova, TN, and will be responsible for delivering high-quality HR support to an assigned region of Lumber or OSB mills. This role requires a proactive approach to human resource management, ensuring that the HR needs of the mills are met effectively and efficiently. In this role, the HR Operations Manager will engage in a variety of responsibilities, including traveling to mill sites up to 50% of the time to provide direct HR support. A key aspect of the position involves determining the root causes of employee turnover by conducting interviews and developing actionable plans to mitigate this issue. The manager will also collaborate closely with local mill HR resources to enhance recruiting and retention strategies for hourly talent, ensuring that the mills are staffed with qualified personnel. Additionally, the HR Operations Manager will mentor and onboard local HR resources, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle HR functions at their respective sites. Compliance with West Fraser's policies and procedures is paramount, and the manager will assist in addressing employee relations issues, including conducting investigations, managing disciplinary actions, and resolving grievances. The role also includes supporting training initiatives in the region and facilitating the rollout of HR programs and policies. The HR Operations Manager will work collaboratively with the Region General Manager and Mill General Managers to maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations. This position may also involve special projects and other duties as assigned, making it a dynamic and engaging role within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct HR support to an assigned region of Lumber or OSB mills, including travel to sites up to 50%.
  • Determine root causes of turnover by conducting interviews and developing plans to reduce turnover.
  • Partner with local mill HR resources to optimize recruiting and retention for hourly talent.
  • Mentor and onboard local HR resources.
  • Ensure compliance with all West Fraser policies and procedures.
  • Assist in employee relations issues, including investigations, discipline, and grievances.
  • Assist with training in the region and support program and policy rollouts.
  • Temporarily backfill local mill HR resources as needed.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with all the Region GM and the Mill GMs.
  • Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Manage special projects and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field.
  • 5 or more years of HR Business Partner, Generalist, or HR Manager experience.
  • 2 or more years of experience in either a manufacturing or distribution environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% via car and air when required.
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills.
