About the position

The HR Payroll Administrator at Ameris Bank is responsible for managing and processing all payroll functions for the organization. This role involves ensuring accuracy in payroll processing, compliance with tax regulations, and effective communication with employees regarding payroll matters. The position requires a detail-oriented individual with strong analytical skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Administer all payroll functions daily, including maintaining and updating earnings, deductions, and taxes.
  • Review timesheets and make necessary payroll edits to ensure accuracy.
  • Validate and reconcile the general ledger related to payroll.
  • Oversee and file all payroll tax reports (W-2s, 941s, State forms) quarterly or as needed.
  • Manage internal and external audit requests and ensure timely submission of required reports.
  • Process payroll 24 times per year, including off-cycle payrolls as needed.
  • Provide training to team members and complete cross-training within the payroll department.
  • Communicate with employees on payroll processes and procedures.
  • Create and interpret reports for coordinators and management.
  • Handle year-end processes including edits, W-2s, and address verification.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in payroll administration required.
  • Proven experience in HR, benefits, and payroll administration, including knowledge of payroll regulations and compliance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficient in payroll and HR software (UKG Pro, Workday) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Detail-oriented with strong mathematical and accounting skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • CPP certification preferred.
  • HRCI certification as a PHR or SPHR preferred.
  • Previous experience in banking preferred, including with taxes, benefits, and payroll functions.
  • Working knowledge of state and federal employment law preferred.
