About the position

The Human Resources Technician/HR Data and Payroll position is a critical role within the HR Data and Payroll Services division, located in North Providence, RI. This position is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate processing of payroll for assigned state departments, which often involves navigating complex work schedules and payroll regulations. The individual will be tasked with auditing and processing timesheets in accordance with established time and attendance rules, which include managing complex scheduling, overtime, and various compensation and incentive payments. The ideal candidate for this role should possess a keen attention to detail and demonstrate a high level of accuracy in their work. Excellent organizational skills, interpersonal abilities, and customer service skills are essential for success in this position. The successful candidate must be adaptable to change and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with federal and Rhode Island payroll laws, as well as wage and hour regulations, is preferred. Additionally, candidates should have a solid understanding of business and fiscal management principles, proven HR skills, and the ability to interpret collective bargaining agreements as they pertain to payroll functions. Candidates should hold a minimum of an associate degree in public administration, human resources management, or a related field, along with at least two years of experience in a payroll function. Familiarity with the organization of state government and the operations of state departments and agencies will be considered a plus. This is a temporary position with an estimated duration of 18 months, reporting directly to the Deputy Personnel Administrator of HR Data and Payroll, and requires on-site work in Providence, RI.

Responsibilities

  • Process payroll for assigned state departments accurately and timely.
  • Audit and process timesheets in accordance with time and attendance rules.
  • Manage complex scheduling and overtime calculations.
  • Handle various compensation and incentive payments.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and Rhode Island payroll laws.
  • Provide excellent customer service and support to employees regarding payroll inquiries.

Requirements

  • Minimum of an associate degree in public administration, human resources management, or a related field.
  • At least two years of experience in a payroll function.
  • Familiarity with federal and Rhode Island payroll and wage and hour laws.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in processing payroll.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

Benefits
