About the position

The HR & Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing payroll for accounting and HR clients while providing administrative support to the HR team. This role requires confidentiality and a strong focus on communication, teamwork, and client service. The specialist will handle various payroll activities, maintain employee records, and assist with onboarding and offboarding processes.

Responsibilities

  • Process weekly, bi-weekly, and semi-monthly payrolls for various clients.
  • Calculate and distribute employee wages, deductions, and benefits.
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance in all payroll activities.
  • Assist with onboarding and offboarding of employees.
  • Maintain employee records, including benefits and leave information.
  • Record hours, process time records, and compile payroll reports.
  • Maintain employee payroll records, deductions, and calculate overtime pay, bonuses, and commissions.
  • Process physical checks, direct deposits, and termination checks.
  • Reconcile health, supplemental benefits, and 401(k) contributions.
  • Provide assistance to clients and client employees on payroll issues.
  • Understand and interpret state and federal payroll laws and communicate them effectively.
  • Conduct regular payroll trainings throughout the year.
  • Assist HR Manager, Controller, & CEO with accounting requests.
  • Support management with special projects and assignments.

Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in payroll processing and administration.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or Human Resources (preferred).
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) preferred.
  • Proficient with HR and payroll software, including Ceridian and Paychex.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in HR is a plus.
  • Familiarity with accounting and financial operations in a fast-paced environment.
