About the position

The Payroll Tax Specialist at SWBC will play a crucial role in the PEO Tax Department, focusing on ensuring timely and accurate state and local tax payments and filings. This position is designed for individuals looking to enhance their payroll tax knowledge while contributing to the company's commitment to personalized HR support for clients. The role emphasizes teamwork and professional development within a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

• Act as support for the PEO Tax Department, reporting directly to the Tax Manager.
• Ensure timely and accurate state and local tax payments and filings.
• Correspond with tax authorities regarding tax issues and resolve questions on returns filed.
• Conduct BLS reporting and surveys such as Industry Verification, OEWS, and Multiple Worksite Locations.
• Assist with quarterly client billing reconciliations.
• Support the Payroll department with various tax adjustments.
• Assist the accounting department with tax general ledger reconciliations.
• Register for new tax accounts and follow state procedures for gaining access to tax accounts and researching associated tax requirements.
• Communicate with clients to ensure successful transition of tax accounts during onboarding and offboarding.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting preferred.
• At least 3 years of Accounting/Payroll tax experience preferred.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills.
• Experience in out of state payments and filings for withholding and unemployment tax.
• Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of MS Office, Word, and Excel.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with all levels of management.
• Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Ability to sit for long periods executing, updating, and validating personal computer applications.
