About the position

The Learning & Development Specialist at Brookfield Zoo Chicago plays a crucial role in enhancing workforce performance and employee engagement through the design, administration, coordination, and evaluation of high-quality training experiences. This position collaborates with various stakeholders to develop e-learning courses and instructor-led training, ensuring that training programs meet the needs of the organization and its diverse workforce. The specialist will also manage training projects, assess training needs, and evaluate the effectiveness of training initiatives, contributing to the zoo's mission of conservation and education.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and evaluate e-learning courses and support instructor-led training.
  • Manage training requests and collaborate with business unit managers to design e-learning training and materials.
  • Assist in managing training projects and provide support for various training programs.
  • Perform training needs assessments and integrate findings into annual training plans.
  • Organize and refine e-learning programs, ensuring content is up to date and effective.
  • Evaluate training program effectiveness and provide summary reports to management.
  • Manage the training budget and coordinate the purchase of instructional materials.
  • Deliver new hire orientation and facilitate training sessions as needed.
  • Develop marketing materials consistent with the zoo's branding standards.
  • Stay current on industry technology and trends in e-learning education.
  • Administer the Learning Management System and maintain training records.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, social science, organizational psychology, human resources, or a related field, or eight years of equivalent experience.
  • Three years of relevant experience in corporate training or instructional design.
  • Experience in designing and developing interactive e-learning courses using technology.
  • Solid presentation skills and excellent written communication skills.
  • Cultural proficiency and ability to work with a diverse audience.
  • Fluency in English at a working professional level.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with e-learning authoring software like Articulate, Captivate, or Camtasia.
  • Valid driver's license required at time of hire.
  • Proven track record in facilitating group learning or new hire orientations.
  • Experience with budget preparation and management.
  • Knowledge of design tools such as Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, or Premiere.
  • Multi-lingual ability and/or Spanish fluency.
