About the position

The HR Specialist (Military) position within the Department of Defense focuses on managing and resolving various military personnel issues, updating standard operating procedures, and serving as a key resource for administrative actions related to military personnel. The role requires a strong understanding of military regulations and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Update command standard operating procedures (SOPs) to include changes or additions.
  • Solve problems pertaining to specific various administrative actions (e.g. rating schemes, promotions, and congressional actions).
  • Serve as the authoritative resource person regarding diverse military personnel problems.
  • Prepare implementing instructions for headquarters element and/or subordinate units to apply.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience in interpreting regulations and providing advice on military personnel issues.
  • Experience in maintaining personnel programs effectively, such as awards and decorations.
  • Proficiency in using automated systems to maintain military records or files and generate reports or documents.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills to ensure compliance with directives.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's or equivalent graduate degree in Human Resources or related field.
  • Experience in federal service, particularly in military personnel management.
