Responsibilities

  • Counsel individual employees regarding leave or accommodation issues.
  • Process employee payroll every two weeks.
  • Answer questions and explain laws, State Personnel rules, and labor contracts to employees and supervisors.
  • Write memos on personnel matters and revise personnel policies.
  • Coordinate payroll and benefits programs to ensure compliance with State Personnel rules and labor-management agreements.
  • Manage employee performance evaluation programs and resolve differences of opinion between supervisors and employees.
  • Collect information on grievances and disciplinary actions, assisting in preparation of responses.
  • Instruct employees on personnel/employment laws and State Personnel rules with technical direction from higher-level officials.
  • Monitor the agency's equal employment opportunity and diversity programs.
  • Process job descriptions and ensure compliance with labor-management agreements and state personnel rules.

Requirements

  • Two years of coursework or training in personnel management, business administration, public administration, or office/administrative work, or three years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of personnel practices, procedures, and terminology.
  • Ability to interact with others under stressful situations and communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Basic arithmetic skills and ability to interpret instructions in various formats.
  • Judgment to apply established practices and procedures to workplace issues.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in HR roles or related fields.
  • Familiarity with federal personnel/employment laws.
  • Knowledge of employee/job safety and health practices.
