About the position

The Human Resources Specialist (Military) position with the Office of the G-1, Army Retirement Service, located in Arlington, Virginia, is responsible for managing the Army's Survivor Benefits Program (SBP). This role involves interpreting and implementing policies, developing innovative programs, and representing the agency in various meetings and committees. The position requires a strong understanding of federal and Army regulations related to survivor benefits and the ability to provide guidance on processing SBP elections.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for the Army's Survivor Benefits Program (SBP) administrative correction board.
  • Interpret, develop, implement, and accomplish a variety of staff assignments in survivor benefit program areas.
  • Ensure the Army SBP program conforms to applicable federal and Army regulations.
  • Develop new and innovative programs to enhance program effectiveness.
  • Develop specific guidance regarding processing of SBP elections in cases of active-duty deaths and mentally incompetent Soldiers.
  • Represent the agency in Army and public sector meetings, conferences, workshops, and DoD committees.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience utilizing laws governing the Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) to execute Agency-level policies and procedures.
  • Experience developing specific guidance regarding processing of SBP elections for subordinate agencies.
  • Experience presenting periodic classroom instructions and overseeing the benefits program for compliance.
  • Ability to provide recommendations on programs for senior decision makers.
