About the position

The Human Resources Specialist plays a crucial role in managing various HR functions at World Services for the Blind. This part-time position focuses on ensuring compliance with employment and labor laws, supporting workforce development through effective employee evaluation and orientation processes, and fostering a positive workplace culture. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills and a commitment to the facility's mission, vision, and values.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes the facility's mission, vision, and values by effectively communicating them to others.
  • Considers mission, vision, and values in developing services, standards, and practices.
  • Preparing or updating employment records related to hiring, transferring, promoting, and terminating.
  • Explaining human resources policies, procedures, laws, and standards to new and existing employees.
  • Ensuring new hire paperwork is completed and processed.
  • Informing job applicants of job duties, responsibilities, benefits, schedules, working conditions, promotion opportunities, etc.
  • Addressing any employment relations issues, such as work complaints and harassment allegations.
  • Processing all personnel action forms and ensuring proper approval.
  • Overseeing the hiring process, which includes coordinating job posts, reviewing resumes, and performing reference checks.
  • Assist with recruiting qualified candidates.
  • Interviewing applicants.
  • Processing transfers, promotions, and terminations.
  • Conducting training sessions.
  • Administering on-the-job training programs.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of training programs.
  • Maintaining records of employee participation in all training and development programs.
  • Analyzing job duties and current job descriptions.
  • Performing job evaluations and job analyses.
  • Assisting with processing employee grievances.
  • Overseeing engagement programs and other employee relations work.
  • Conducting workplace safety inspections.
  • Maintains accident records.
  • Preparing government reports to remain in compliance.
  • Investigates and serves as company representation on unemployment or EEOC complaints.
  • Maintaining morale through staff meetings, birthdays, and staff lounge.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in HR or related discipline (Equivalent work experience may be substituted).
  • Minimum of 2 years HR experience.
  • Ability to balance workloads efficiently.
  • Ability to adapt to changing work environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent inter/intra personnel skills.
  • Meet deadlines under stringent time constraints.
  • Ability to solve complex problems.
