About the position

The Human Resources Specialist at Lehman College, part of The City University of New York (CUNY), plays a crucial role in overseeing all aspects of Human Resources for the members of the Classified Service. Reporting directly to the HR Manager, this position involves a variety of responsibilities that ensure the effective management and implementation of HR systems, as well as the administration of human resources and payroll processes. The specialist will work to ensure compliance with all collective bargaining agreements, as well as college rules and regulations, which is essential for maintaining a fair and equitable workplace. In this role, the HR Specialist will resolve technical issues related to Human Capital Management (HCM) within the CUNYfirst system, specifically focusing on the Position Management (PM), Talent Acquisition (TAM), and Workforce Administration (WFA) modules. The specialist will supervise staff responsible for data entry of time and leave actions into CUNYFirst and internal timekeeping systems, ensuring accuracy and compliance with payroll rules. Additionally, the specialist will conduct daily audits of CUNYFirst transaction reports, initiate necessary data corrections, and recommend process changes in response to regulatory updates. Training is another key aspect of this position, as the HR Specialist will be responsible for educating staff and the college community on the usage of HR systems, providing written instructions and operating procedures as needed. Acting as a liaison between HR and the College IT team, Central Office units, and external vendors, the specialist will facilitate system implementations and address any issues or requests that arise. The HR Specialist will also assist in the full cycle of recruitment processes, which includes classification and compensation, auditing job postings, preparing agendas for Internal Vacancy Review Committee meetings, and managing onboarding and offboarding processes for faculty and staff. Collaboration with the Office of Compliance and Diversity is essential to meet various recruitment objectives throughout the search process. The specialist will interview and appoint candidates for classified staff vacancies and serve as a member of search committees to expedite hiring processes. Responsibilities

  • Assist the HR Manager in managing and implementing HR systems and administering human resources/payroll processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.
  • Proficient knowledge of Peoplesoft/Oracle and/or HRIS systems with strong computer skills.
  • Current knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and affirmative action guidelines and laws such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, and leadership techniques.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in a public sector human resources department.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
