About the position

The HR Specialist at Lehman College is responsible for ensuring the integrity of HR systems, including payroll and performance management. This role involves full-cycle recruitment, compliance with HR regulations, and providing guidance on recruitment and compensation matters. The specialist will also supervise payroll staff and assist in the management of HR processes to enhance services for the college community.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure data integrity of HR systems including CUNYfirst, payroll, and performance management.
  • Assist in full cycle recruitment processes including classification, compensation, and onboarding.
  • Work closely with various departments to provide guidance on recruitment and compensation matters.
  • Interview and appoint candidates for classified staff vacancies.
  • Assist in managing and implementing HR systems and processes to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Conduct daily audits of CUNYFirst transaction reports and initiate data corrections as needed.
  • Supervise staff in the payroll unit.
  • Prepare and disseminate HR systems reports to managers and employees.
  • Maintain and update content for the HR website.
  • Assist in planning to improve services for the College Community.
  • Serve on various College committees and perform special projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.
  • Proficient knowledge of Peoplesoft/Oracle and/or HRIS systems.
  • Current knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and affirmative action guidelines.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning and resource allocation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High degree of confidentiality and discretion with data and documents.
  • Detail-oriented, self-directed, motivated, and proactive.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience in a public sector human resources department.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
