About the position

The HR Specialist at George Mason University is responsible for managing various human resources functions including labor reconciliation, position control, and contract management. This part-time role supports faculty and staff through administrative tasks, assists in the hiring process for student positions, and ensures compliance with HR policies and procedures. The position requires strong analytical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office, along with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage labor reconciliation and distribution for the Costello College of Business (CCB).
  • Process labor distributions and ensure accurate budget and salary payments.
  • Create and issue contracts for faculty and staff, including renewal contracts.
  • Assist with the hiring process for graduate assistants and student workers, including job postings and onboarding.
  • Track teaching assignments and ensure correct pay assignments for adjunct faculty.
  • Maintain documentation and electronic files throughout the personnel administration cycle.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience in drafting and managing contracts.
  • Strong analytical skills for auditing and reconciling labor distributions.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize activities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in work.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as an HR Specialist or Generalist.
  • Knowledge of human resource policies and processes, particularly at George Mason University.
  • Experience with HRIS systems, specifically Banner and PageUp.
  • Familiarity with budget management and financial analysis in an academic setting.
