About the position

The HR Specialist position at Western Pacific Truck School is a full-time role requiring 32-40 hours per week during traditional business hours, specifically Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. This role is situated within a fast-paced professional environment at an established truck school that has been operational since 1977. The school is currently experiencing growth and is seeking an experienced HR Specialist to join their team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for a variety of HR functions including hiring and interviewing, onboarding and offboarding processes, benefits administration, payroll processing, compliance with employment laws, policy updates, training organization, and employee relations. The HR Specialist will play a crucial role in managing employee files, administering health and dental insurance, and overseeing the 401k plan. Additionally, the specialist will ensure that the organization adheres to all relevant employment laws and regulations while educating employees on compliance matters. The position also involves miscellaneous tasks such as partnering with external vendors to create additional no-cost employee benefits, researching lower-cost benefit options, and managing employee uniforms and badges. This role is essential for maintaining a positive work environment and ensuring that all HR processes are executed efficiently and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Hiring and interviewing - posting jobs, screening resumes, scheduling interviews, and extending job offers.
  • Onboarding and offboarding - scheduling onboarding of employees, educating new employees on company policies, and managing the offboarding process.
  • Benefits and payroll - administering benefits and leave, processing payroll, and updating/managing employee files.
  • Managing health and dental insurance and 401k plan.
  • Ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations and educating employees on compliance regulations.
  • Updating company policies and guidelines, ensuring adherence to laws and standards.
  • Organizing training dates for new employees and ensuring all sexual harassment training is conducted in accordance with the law.
  • Managing communications related to employee performance management and conducting 90-day and annual reviews.
  • Partnering with external vendors to create additional no-cost employee benefits and researching lower-cost benefit expenses.

Requirements

  • 2 years of experience in interviewing and employee relations.
  • Entry-level office experience.
  • Proficiency in Google Docs and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organizational skills and typing ability.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with qualitative research interviewing.
  • 1 year of experience with Google Docs (Preferred).
  • 1 year of experience with Microsoft Office (Preferred).
