About the position

The HR Assistant position at Huhtamaki involves supporting the HR department in various functions such as employee relations, recruitment, benefits administration, and compliance with labor laws. The role is essential in maintaining accurate employee records, processing payroll, and ensuring effective communication regarding HR policies and programs. The HR Assistant will also play a key role in fostering positive employee relations and participating in company-wide HR projects.

Responsibilities

  • Track hourly employee personnel changes including new hires, terminations, promotions, and transfers.
  • Update HRIS database records and process paperwork for new hires and terminations.
  • Conduct new hire orientations and maintain personnel, medical, and confidential files.
  • Process weekly payroll and provide counsel to local leadership on HR policies and procedures.
  • Ensure consistent and fair treatment of employees in disciplinary actions and terminations.
  • Maintain current job descriptions and manage recruitment, interviewing, and scheduling of post-offer physicals/drug screens.
  • Maintain contact with local agencies to identify and recruit qualified candidates.
  • Coordinate the administration of employee health, welfare, EAP, and retirement plans.
  • Generate communication to ensure employees understand benefit programs and provide counseling as needed.
  • Monitor and communicate employee status changes related to leaves of absence.
  • Organize employee relations activities such as events and recognition programs.
  • Maintain open communication with employees and respond to their questions.

Requirements

  • Experience in human resources or related field.
  • Knowledge of federal and state labor laws.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
