About the position

As an HR Specialist at Gurstel Law Firm, P.C., you will play a crucial role in supporting the day-to-day HR operations. This position involves administrative tasks related to employee health and welfare plans, payroll processing, onboarding, and maintaining employee records. You will act as a liaison between employees and insurance providers, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations while providing excellent internal customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Administers health and welfare plans, including enrollments, changes, and terminations.
  • Processes required documents through payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate record-keeping and proper deductions.
  • Arranges and assists onboarding for new hires.
  • Completes Forms I-9, verifies I-9 documentation, and maintains I-9 files.
  • Reconciles benefits statements and conducts audits of payroll and benefits programs.
  • Assists with processing of terminations and the performance review process.
  • Files documents into appropriate employee files and prepares correspondence as requested.
  • Engages in employee relations activities and manages related programs.
  • Responds to HR inquiries in compliance with regulations and provides superior internal customer service.
  • Performs data entry and record keeping, along with other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of benefits programs including health insurance, short- and long-term disability programs, dental insurance, life insurance, and 401k plans.
  • Basic knowledge of State and Federal employment laws and forms (I-9, W-4, COBRA, ADA, ACA) preferred.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with great sensitivity.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and high motivation.
  • Good reasoning abilities and sound judgment.
  • Effective project management abilities with the ability to work well under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional and courteous with a positive attitude.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to multitask and organize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to work extended hours when necessary.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2-4 years of experience in a Human Resources/Payroll environment, administering timekeeping and payroll processes using software (ADP Workforce Now) preferred.
