About the position

The HR Specialist at George Mason University is responsible for managing various human resources functions including labor reconciliation, position control, and contract management. This part-time role supports faculty and staff through administrative tasks related to leave management, contract processing, and personnel administration for student support programs. The position requires a detail-oriented individual who can effectively handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while ensuring compliance with university policies.

Responsibilities

  • Manage labor reconciliation and distribution for the Costello College of Business (CCB).
  • Process all labor distributions for CCB and other units.
  • Complete monthly labor reconciliations and submit necessary forms for position control.
  • Create and issue contracts for P&T, Term Renewal, and Research Staff Renewal.
  • Assist with faculty and staff support including managing study and sick leaves.
  • Process adjunct contracts and faculty overload letters, ensuring correct pay assignments.
  • Manage the personnel administration cycle for graduate and undergraduate support programs, including job postings and onboarding.
  • Maintain documentation and electronic files throughout the hiring process.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience in drafting and managing contracts.
  • Strong analytical skills for conducting audits and reconciling labor distributions.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize activities effectively.
  • Attention to detail and high degree of accuracy in work.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and collaborate with others.
  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as an HR Specialist or Generalist.
  • Knowledge of human resource policies and processes.
  • Experience with Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS).
  • Familiarity with George Mason University HR policies.
  • Experience in higher education settings.
  • Hands-on experience with Banner (HRIS) and PageUp (ATS).
  • Experience with budget management and financial analysis.
  • Basic Salesforce proficiency and reporting tools for data analysis.
  • Familiarity with employment law and contract management.
  • Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills.
