About the position

As the HR Specialist at Gurstel Law Firm, you will provide essential clerical and administrative support to the HR operations. This role involves facilitating HR processes, managing employee health and welfare plans, and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. You will also be responsible for payroll processing, onboarding, record-keeping, and maintaining employee relations, making you a key player in the firm's HR function.

Responsibilities

  • Administers health and welfare plans, including enrollments, changes, and terminations.
  • Processes required documents through payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate record-keeping and proper deductions.
  • Arranges and assists onboarding for new hires, completing Forms I-9 and verifying documentation.
  • Reconciles benefits statements and conducts audits of payroll and benefits programs.
  • Assists with processing terminations and the performance review process.
  • Files documents into appropriate employee files and prepares correspondence as requested.
  • Engages in employee relations activities and manages related programs.
  • Responds to HR inquiries in compliance with regulations and provides superior internal customer service.
  • Performs data entry and record keeping, along with other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of benefits programs including health insurance, short- and long-term disability, dental insurance, life insurance, and 401k plans.
  • Basic knowledge of State and Federal employment laws and forms (I-9, W-4, COBRA, ADA, ACA) preferred.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with sensitivity.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and high motivation.
  • Good reasoning abilities and sound judgment.
  • Effective project management abilities and ability to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional and courteous with a positive attitude.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to multitask and organize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to work extended hours when necessary.

Nice-to-haves

  • BA in HR Management preferred, experience may be substituted for education.
  • 2-4 years of experience in a Human Resources/Payroll environment preferred, particularly with ADP Workforce Now.
