Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Specialist will be responsible for the day-to-day administrative functions and success of the Risk & Safety department. This role involves maintaining up-to-date knowledge in the field of safety as required by OSHA, state, federal, and local agencies, ensuring the company is compliant with all applicable laws and regulations that pertain to workplace safety and commercial driving. The HR Specialist will respond to and report employee, vehicle, and equipment accidents promptly and accurately, assist in investigating accidents/incidents, and maintain documentation of safety procedures, site inspections, accidents, and events. The HR Specialist will also administer the company's safety policies and trainings, manage Workers' Compensation reporting and claims, and work with HR and management teams on ADA, FMLA, FLSA, workers' compensation, hiring procedures, job requirements, training, and light duty assignments. This position requires leading the company's Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Committee meetings, ensuring compliance of commercial truck drivers with appropriate licenses and certifications, and administering the company's Random Drug & Alcohol Testing program. Regular safety observations, walks, and inspections will be conducted to identify risks at all company facilities, and the HR Specialist will educate management and employees on safety standards and safe machinery operation. Additionally, the role involves scheduling and supporting safety trainings, including CPR/First Aid, Workplace Violence Prevention, and emergency drills, while performing other tasks as assigned to support the HR department's operations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge in the field of safety as required by OSHA, state, federal, and local agencies.
  • Respond to and report employee, vehicle, and equipment accidents promptly and accurately.
  • Assist in investigating accidents/incidents and identifying causes.
  • Maintain documentation of safety procedures, site inspections, accidents, and events.
  • Administer the Company's Safety policies and trainings.
  • Administer Workers' Compensation reporting and claims.
  • Work with HR and management teams on ADA, FMLA, FLSA, workers' compensation, hiring procedures, job requirements, training, and light duty assignments.
  • Administer Vehicle and Equipment accidents and claims.
  • Lead the Company's Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Committee meetings.
  • Ensure all commercial truck drivers are compliant and current with appropriate licenses, endorsements, medical certifications, and all other Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and driver qualifications requirements.
  • Administer the Company's Random Drug & Alcohol Testing program.
  • Process and maintain all commercial and non-commercial drivers' records in compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Ensure that all drivers are informed and aware of changes and updates in regulations/requirements as directed by corresponding agencies.
  • Administer the Company's Annual Safe Driver Awards and quarterly Safety Incentive Awards.
  • Conduct regular safety observations, walks, and inspections to identify risks at all Company's facilities.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to reduce workplace injuries and accidents.
  • Educate management and employees on safety standards and safe machinery operation.
  • Assist in developing and implementing Emergency Action Plans.
  • Monitor and replenish first aid kit inventory every six months or as needed.
  • Schedule and support safety trainings, including CPR/First Aid, Workplace Violence Prevention, and emergency drills.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned to support the HR department's operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, occupational safety, business, or related field.
  • Preferred, but not required, 2 years in Human Resources, Safety, or relevant work in an administrative capacity.
  • Preferred, experience researching, developing, and implementing safety policies and procedures.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with a commitment to delivering extraordinary customer service to employees and managers alike.
  • Comfortable working with senior to mid-level leadership, and employees alike.
  • Human Resources skills including but not limited to excellent planning, time management, team collaboration, decision-making, presentation, and organization skills.
  • Highly autonomous; able to work on their own without guidance.
  • Adept problem-solver; able to identify issues and resolve in a timely manner.
  • Extremely attentive to detail, accurate and thorough, and capable of monitoring work independently for quality.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to communicate clearly and with a keen sense of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Available and flexible to minimal travel to other locations.
