About the position

The HR Support Associate at Scheels is responsible for a variety of human resources support activities under the guidance of the HR ASL and Human Resources team. This role is crucial in ensuring compliance with HR best practices across various areas, including culture, onboarding, training and development, benefits administration, associate relations, performance evaluations, and maintaining associate files. The HR Support Associate will play a key role in promoting Scheels' culture and benefits through positive interactions with associates, while also maintaining a high level of confidentiality due to the sensitive nature of the information handled. The position requires flexibility in scheduling, as it may involve working evenings, weekends, and holidays, with an average of 20 hours per week. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, and possess strong communication skills to effectively interact with all levels of the organization. Additionally, the HR Support Associate will assist in various HR functions, including creating job postings, onboarding new associates, and maintaining accurate associate records. This role is essential in fostering a positive work environment and supporting the overall goals of Scheels as a leading retailer.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of human resources support activities under the direction of the HR ASL and Human Resources team.
  • Maintain compliance with HR programs, policies, and procedures, as well as local, state, and federal employment laws.
  • Promote Scheels culture and benefits through regular and positive associate interactions.
  • Create employment postings for recruiting applicants and maintain up-to-date job postings.
  • Assist the HR Leader in onboarding new associates, including setting up pre-screening interviews and coordinating the completion of long-form applications.
  • Track training and development of new associates and assist with preparing benefits paperwork for newly eligible associates.
  • Maintain associate files and paperwork, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Stay current with state and federal employment laws and best practices.
  • Demonstrate strong organization, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience in human resources or related field, preferably with Scheels.
  • PHR/SHRM-CP or SPHR/SHRM-SCP certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Strong initiative and vision for continuous improvement in HR practices.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong computer skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to perform basic math and follow written, oral, and diagram instructions.
