About the position

The HRIS Operations Manager at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is responsible for leading a small team focused on HR operations, system optimization, and data integrity within the Workday environment. This role involves managing HRIS applications, ensuring compliance and accuracy of core HCM data, and providing tactical leadership to HR functions. The manager will also evaluate current processes, recommend improvements, and contribute to overall HR technology strategies while ensuring exceptional customer support and user experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a small team responsible for data processing and customer support within the Workday environment.
  • Assist with the configuration of core HCM data components.
  • Maintain HRIS operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance of Core HCM data.
  • Gather and detail business requirements, translating them into technical requirements; perform fit/gap analysis.
  • Evaluate and recommend best approaches, ensuring stakeholder engagement throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide information to inform leadership in decision-making.
  • Manage the reorganization process.
  • Oversee ongoing HRIS support, training, and troubleshooting for HR staff and end-users.
  • Contribute to overall HR technology strategies as a member of the leadership team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, or relevant field, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of business systems analysis experience with HR Information Systems such as Workday, iCIMS, or Saba/Cornerstone.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with a wide range of constituents.
  • Demonstrated capability to quickly learn new applications to support business function requirements.
  • Competence to synthesize difficult concepts and clearly describe them to non-technical users.
  • Solid understanding of regulatory and legislative requirements affecting Human Resources.

  • Master's degree
  • Strong change management and communication skills.
  • Experience with Digital Adoption Platforms and Training tools.
  • Business Systems Analysis, PMI-PBA certification or other relevant certification.
  • Strong Workday Core HCM Business Process / Configuration skills and/or Workday Implementation experience.
  • Reporting Analytics and Workday Reporting tools (i.e., Power BI, Advanced Reporting, Dashboards).
