About the position

The HS Assistant Teacher at Northside Center for Child Development plays a crucial role in supporting the developmental needs of Head Start children. This position involves collaborating with the lead teacher to plan and implement classroom activities, ensuring a nurturing and educational environment for children and engaging with families to foster a collaborative learning atmosphere.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the supervision of children.
  • Supervise the planning and execution of a program that considers the social, developmental, and health needs of the group and individual children.
  • Observe and record children's behavior and development.
  • Collaborate with the Group Teacher to create developmentally appropriate weekly lesson plans.
  • Assist the Group Teacher in developing and maintaining a positive working relationship with families.
  • Participate in scheduled meetings with families, colleagues, and the school's interdisciplinary team.
  • Maintain professional and ethical standards, including confidentiality and respect for rights and privacy.
  • Attend mandated trainings and meetings and seek out staff development opportunities.
  • Work as a team member with all staff and maintain a positive work ethic.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred.
  • Experience working with families and children ages birth to five required.
  • Knowledge of Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies Gold preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to write using correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation; and to organize documents accurately.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with community members and groups, managers, regulatory agencies, and families both individually and in group settings.
