About the position

The primary purpose of this position is to enable children to pursue their education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of the regular teacher. The individual in this role will be responsible for following the plans and schedules set by the absent teacher, ensuring that the educational process continues without interruption. This includes teaching the lessons prepared by the regular teacher and maintaining the established routines and procedures of the school and classrooms to which they are assigned. The substitute teacher will also be expected to report on the day's activities at the conclusion of each day and provide feedback as requested by the building principal. In addition to instructional duties, the substitute teacher will oversee pupil behavior in class and during other times throughout the school day. This includes maintaining appropriate student behavior and ensuring that the classroom environment is conducive to learning. The substitute teacher will also be expected to maintain good relations with faculty and staff, treating all information about students and staff with the utmost confidentiality. The role may also involve performing other duties as assigned, and the individual must demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment toward the job and the mission of the company. This includes supporting the company's values in areas such as academic excellence, operational performance, and superior culture. The substitute teacher will need to work effectively with staff and relate to individuals at all levels of the organization, being sensitive to corporate needs and public image as unique situations arise.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews with the principal, supervisor and/or designated teacher the plans and schedule to be followed during the teaching day.
  • Teaches the lessons prepared by the absent teacher.
  • Reports in writing the day's activities at conclusion of each day and provides other feedback as requested by the building principal.
  • Follows all school and CSUSA policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.
  • Consults, as appropriate, with the building principal and/or supervisor before initiating any lesson or other procedure not specified in the teacher's plans.
  • Maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classrooms to which they are assigned.
  • Assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class and at other times during the school day as requested.
  • Maintains appropriate student behavior at all times throughout the school day for assigned students.
  • Maintains good relations with the faculty and staff of the district.
  • Treats information about students and staff with utmost confidence.

Requirements

  • Requires a high school diploma/GED or equivalent experience.
  • Completion of District's Substitute Workshop (as required by the district).
  • Commitment to company values.
