About the position

The HS LTS Spanish Teacher will help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible individuals. The teacher will be responsible for teaching District approved curriculum, meeting and instructing assigned classes at designated locations and times, and planning a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students. The teacher will create a conducive classroom environment, encourage students to maintain standards of behavior, and guide the learning process toward achieving curriculum goals. Regular diagnosis of learning problems, evaluation of students' academic and social growth, and maintaining communication with students and parents are also essential duties of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches District approved curriculum.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in designated locations and times.
  • Plans a program of study that meets individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Creates a conducive classroom environment appropriate to students' maturity and interests.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guides the learning process toward achieving curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for lessons.
  • Diagnoses learning problems of students regularly and seeks assistance from the principal.
  • Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
  • Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
  • Works effectively with all members of the staff.
  • Keeps current in discipline and teaching techniques.
  • Supervises classroom, students, teaching assistants, and parent volunteers.

Requirements

  • BA degree in area of major study.
  • Valid Massachusetts Teaching Certificate in area of study required.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, parents, teachers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs.
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents; skill in oral and written communication.
