About the position

The position involves working as a Medical Imaging Technician (MITS) within the Department of Radiology at Mayo Clinic, focusing on providing technical support for medical imaging equipment and ensuring patient safety. The role requires collaboration with clinical staff, performing quality control testing, and optimizing imaging protocols. The technician will also be responsible for maintaining and repairing various imaging technologies, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and participating in innovation initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for medical imaging equipment and patient safety in imaging areas.
  • Assist clinical staff with technical aspects of medical imaging, including quality control testing and protocol optimization.
  • Direct and practice safety guidelines for staff and patients.
  • Educate and train personnel in the work area and generate feedback.
  • Assist Operations Managers and Directors with equipment purchases and space requests.
  • Collect performance data and generate annual reports for accreditation of imaging equipment.
  • Support and participate in innovation and change initiatives.
  • Ensure timely repair and reliable operation of medical imaging equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, quality assurance testing, equipment calibrations, installations, and corrective maintenance on imaging equipment.
  • Configure equipment for proper operation on the hospital network and ensure data security compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology, engineering, electronics, or related fields, or a non-related Bachelor's degree with equivalent training and experience.
  • Experience repairing medical imaging equipment in a hospital or clinic setting.
  • AAMI ACI Certified (BMET Biomedical Electronic Technician, CRES Certified Radiological Equipment Specialist).
  • Knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, biology, and medical terminology.
  • Comprehensive understanding of common clinical terminology used in a hospital or clinic.
  • Knowledge of networks, computer hardware, software, and security.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with MRI, CT, PET, ultrasound, general and interventional X-ray, mammography, nuclear imaging, and linear accelerators.
  • Advanced level of professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills.
