About the position

The Human Resources Specialist IV position at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice is a full-time role located in Tennessee Colony, TX. This position is responsible for a variety of human resources functions, including but not limited to recruitment, employee relations, benefits administration, and compliance with state and federal employment laws. The successful candidate will work closely with management and staff to ensure that human resources policies and procedures are effectively implemented and adhered to. The role requires a strong understanding of human resources practices and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality. In this position, the Human Resources Specialist IV will be expected to manage various HR programs and initiatives, provide guidance to employees and management on HR-related issues, and assist in the development and implementation of HR policies. The role may also involve conducting training sessions, facilitating employee onboarding, and participating in performance management processes. The specialist will need to maintain accurate employee records and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a strong attention to detail. They should be able to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating a proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making. Additionally, the candidate should be comfortable using various HR software and tools to manage employee data and generate reports.

Responsibilities

  • Manage recruitment processes including job postings, screening applications, and conducting interviews.
  • Provide guidance and support to employees and management on HR policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the administration of employee benefits programs and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Conduct training sessions for staff on HR-related topics.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records and HR databases.
  • Participate in performance management processes and assist with employee evaluations.
  • Support the development and implementation of HR policies and initiatives.
  • Handle employee relations issues and facilitate conflict resolution.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.
  • Four years of full-time, wage-earning experience in human resources, customer service, clerical, or related fields.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  • Experience in computer operations is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain a certificate of course completion for the Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS) training within six months of employment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Skill to type 45 WPM net with no more than 10 errors preferred.
