About the position

The Human Resource Assistant at Sterilite Corporation plays a crucial role in supporting the Human Resources Department by managing various HR-related functions and responsibilities. This full-time position is based in Davenport, IA, and is essential for recruiting, hiring, and maintaining scheduled labor for the plant. The HR Assistant will be responsible for preparing and analyzing weekly staffing numbers to ensure that staffing goals are met. This includes posting job openings, reviewing applications, conducting candidate evaluations, and verifying employment history and eligibility requirements for new hires. In addition to staffing management, the HR Assistant will handle Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) documentation, monitoring the status of employees on FMLA leave, and notifying eligible employees about Short-Term Disability (STD) coverage. The role also involves providing backup support for the HR Manager in their absence, scheduling and conducting orientation sessions for new hires, processing unemployment claims, and preparing daily labor reports, weekly flash reports, and labor hour worksheets. The HR Assistant will also assist with various HR projects throughout the year, including open enrollment processes, United Way campaigns, and wellness initiatives. This position requires strong organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to interact effectively with a diverse population of employees. Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze weekly staffing numbers to ensure goals are met.
  • Post job openings, accept and review applications, and conduct candidate evaluations.
  • Verify employment history and eligibility requirements for new hires.
  • Manage Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) documentation and monitor employee status on FMLA leave.
  • Notify eligible employees about Short-Term Disability (STD) coverage and monitor their STD status.
  • Provide support and cover HR Manager responsibilities in their absence.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and conduct orientation sessions for new hires.
  • Process unemployment claims and attend related hearings as needed.
  • Prepare and post daily labor reports, weekly flash reports, and weekly labor hour worksheets.
  • Provide backup support for payroll functions when necessary.
  • Assist with open enrollment processes, United Way campaigns, wellness initiatives, and other HR projects throughout the year.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree preferred with 3-5 years verifiable HR experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with a diverse population of employees.
  • Experience with UKG Ready is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
