About the position

The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) serves as a trusted advisor to various business units, focusing on labor and employee relations. This role is pivotal in championing the organization's culture and ensuring compliance with employment laws and collective bargaining agreements. The HRBP is responsible for managing relationships within the organization, providing consultative support on HR policies, and proactively addressing employee relations issues.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the business and the teams supported, making proactive recommendations on talent-related issues.
  • Coach leaders on best practices for employee engagement, communication, and performance management.
  • Provide consultative support on HR policies and practices.
  • Collaborate with management to improve work relationships, morale, productivity, and retention.
  • Ensure compliance with HR policies, collective bargaining agreements, and government regulations.
  • Maintain relationships with union leadership at the business unit level.
  • Manage and resolve employee and labor relations issues, including harassment allegations and disputes.
  • Conduct workplace investigations and initiate corrective actions as necessary.
  • Coordinate unemployment claims and represent the company in hearings.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of workplace accidents and incidents.
  • Assist in compliance with OSHA regulations and support training initiatives.
  • Conduct new hire orientation and manage the off-boarding process.
  • Generate statistical reports on HR functional areas for business unit leaders.
  • Participate in developing HR department goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related field.
  • At least 2 years of labor and employee relations experience in a unionized setting.
  • Knowledge of Federal, NY State employment law and compliance issues.
  • High level of interpersonal skills for handling sensitive situations.
  • Ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with diverse groups.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
  • Proven organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Valid NYS Driver's License and reliable transportation for regional travel.
  • Extensive knowledge of MS Office and HRIS systems.
