About the position

The Human Resource, Compliance Specialist is an integral part of the Human Resources Operations team, specifically managing Department of Transportation programs for all Southern Company Gas business units. This role offers a unique opportunity to develop business partnerships and enhance skills necessary for planning, developing, and implementing innovative compliance solutions across the organization. As a Compliance Coordinator, your daily responsibilities will include monitoring the Federal Motor Carrier Administration (FMCSA) regulations, which involves confirming the credentials of Commercial Motor Vehicle drivers. You will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with drug testing requirements as outlined by DOT-FMCSA and DOT-PHMSA regulations, making sure that Southern Company Gas employees are tested in accordance with both regulations and company policies. Additionally, you will assist the business in the Company's Affirmative Action Program, ensuring good faith efforts are met. Collaboration is key in this role, as you will work closely with external vendors, including Third Party Administrators (TPA) for drug and alcohol testing, Affirmative Action Plan (AAP) vendors, Medical Review Officers (MRO), Substance Abuse Professionals (SAP), and compliance vendors. Your ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with both internal and external stakeholders will be crucial in achieving compliance and supporting the overall HR operations. This position is ideal for individuals who are strong communicators with a solid understanding of FMCSA, PHMSA, EEO-1, and OFCCP subjects. You should possess a can-do attitude, be adaptable, and have the capability to manage multiple tasks while influencing various levels of the organization to deliver measurable results. Responsibilities

  • Monitor FMCSA regulations and confirm Commercial Motor Vehicle driver credentials.
  • Ensure compliance with drug testing requirements as per DOT-FMCSA and DOT-PHMSA regulations.
  • Assist in the Company's Affirmative Action Program good faith efforts.
  • Collaborate with external vendors for drug and alcohol testing and compliance services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Human Resources, or a High School Diploma/GED with 3+ years of experience in Human Resources.
  • 3-5 years of Human Resources experience in a generalist or specialist capacity is highly desirable.
  • Mathematical and analytical proficiency.
  • Good critical thinking skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise written and electronic reports.
  • Strong relationship-building skills to achieve department objectives.
  • Motivated with excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective time management skills with competing priorities.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel, MS Outlook, and Microsoft Teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong working knowledge of DOT, DOL, USCIS, DHS, FTC - FCRA programs as they impact a workforce.
