About the position

The Human Resource Generalist at Walgreens Distribution Center in Perrysburg, OH, plays a pivotal role in supporting a wide array of Human Resources activities. Under the guidance of the HR Manager, this position is responsible for fostering employee engagement, managing performance, overseeing recruitment and selection processes, and addressing employee relations issues. The HR Generalist will also handle compensation and benefits inquiries, facilitate training programs, and manage special HR projects as assigned. A key aspect of this role is to understand the business needs and leverage HR strategies to help the organization achieve its objectives while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations. In this role, the HR Generalist will build strong relationships with leaders across the organization, providing partnership to implement HR strategies and programs effectively. They will offer coaching and guidance on organizational policies, including equal employment opportunity and workplace conditions. The HR Generalist will also support recruitment efforts for both exempt and nonexempt positions, conduct new employee orientations, and monitor career pathing programs to promote employee growth. Additionally, they will consult with management on workforce data to anticipate talent gaps and provide insights on employee benefits programs to assist team members with their inquiries. The HR Generalist will actively participate in facility meetings to communicate company news and changes, facilitate discussions, and encourage feedback to ensure smooth adoption of new initiatives. They will maintain accurate employee records, inspire a culture of recognition and appreciation, and support the annual engagement survey process. This position requires the ability to work independently in ambiguous situations, make sound judgments, and mentor less experienced HR staff. Overall, the HR Generalist is essential in promoting a positive working environment and ensuring effective communication within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Build strong relationships with leaders and implement HR strategies, programs, and deliverables.
  • Provide coaching and guidance on organizational policies and practices.
  • Conduct and support recruitment efforts for all team members and contingent workers.
  • Conduct new employee orientations and monitor career pathing programs.
  • Consult with managers on absenteeism, turnover, and workforce data to anticipate talent gaps.
  • Assist team members with inquiries regarding employee benefits programs.
  • Attend facility meetings to provide updates on company news and changes.
  • Facilitate discussions and encourage feedback to resolve ongoing concerns.
  • Maintain employee records including attendance, leaves, and disciplinary actions.
  • Inspire a culture of celebration and recognition to drive engagement.
  • Support the launch of the annual engagement survey and analyze results.
  • Mentor and train less experienced HR staff and provide feedback on performance reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree OR High School Diploma/GED and at least 3 years experience in employee relations, staffing & selection, compensation & benefits and/or training.
  • Experience applying knowledge of Federal, State, Labor and Employment laws, Workers' compensation, FMLA, ADA and OSHA laws.
  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years human resources experience OR High School Diploma/GED and at least 5 years human resources experience.
  • Experience with Labor Relations.
  • Experience in distribution, manufacturing, and/or production environments.
  • Strong time management skills for prioritizing and organizing multiple projects.
