About the position

The Human Resource Generalist position at Vinfen is a critical role that supports the HR department in various functions, particularly focusing on benefits and operational/data support. Under the direction of the Senior HR Manager for Connecticut, the HR Generalist will act as the benefits and leave administration lead for the state. This position requires a collaborative approach, working closely with colleagues across the HR department to ensure compliance with employment and labor-related laws while maintaining accuracy and timeliness in all HR processes. As the subject matter expert for Connecticut's leave programs, the HR Generalist will interpret and administer leave policies in accordance with federal and state laws, including FMLA, CT-FML, ADA, USERRA, and the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act. The role involves independently approving or denying leave cases based on medical information, coordinating medical documentation, and ensuring adherence to HIPAA and employee privacy guidelines. The HR Generalist will also oversee the digitization of leave-related files and collaborate with Payroll to ensure accurate pay for employees on leave. Maintaining communication with employees on leave and coordinating their return to work is a vital aspect of this role. The HR Generalist will also serve as a backup for the Senior HR Manager when needed, ensuring continuity in HR operations. This position is essential for fostering a supportive work environment and ensuring that HR practices are consistent and of high quality across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for Connecticut leave programs under the guidance of HR leadership and the legal department.
  • Interpret and administer leave programs and policies in accordance with applicable federal and state employment laws.
  • Administer all aspects of Connecticut leave programs, including approving or denying leave cases based on medical information.
  • Coordinate and organize all medical information while ensuring compliance with HIPAA and Employee Privacy guidelines.
  • Oversee the timely digitization of all leave-related files.
  • Collaborate with Payroll to ensure accurate pay for employees on leave.
  • Maintain contact with employees on leave and coordinate their return to work.
  • Act as backup to the Senior HR Manager in their absence or as workload demands.
  • Communicate and collaborate with HR teammates to ensure consistency and quality of practices and work.
  • Perform other assigned duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years' experience in an HR administrative function or two years in an HR generalist role.
  • Bachelor's degree in HR, business administration, or a related field required.
  • Experience may be substituted for academic training in some instances.
