About the position

The Human Resource Generalist position at Illinois Tool Works (ITW) is a full-time, exempt role located in Troy, Ohio, specifically within the Hobart Warewash Division manufacturing facility. This position is integral to providing day-to-day professional HR support and policy administration to the business. The HR Generalist will report directly to the Plant HR Manager and will be responsible for a variety of HR functions including Payroll, Recruiting, Employee and Labor Relations, Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS), Benefits, Wellness, and Safety. This role is designed for a professional who can offer technical expertise, reporting, and analytical support while ensuring legal compliance and adherence to employment laws, such as the annual Affirmative Action Plan. In this position, the HR Generalist will administer and process biweekly payrolls, conduct pre-screening recruiting efforts for both full-time and temporary positions, and perform various HR activities according to established policies and procedures. The role involves recruiting non-exempt roles, maintaining accurate applicant flow logs, coordinating onboarding processes for new employees, and managing employee-related data in HRIS. Additionally, the HR Generalist will prepare monthly safety reports, respond to inquiries regarding benefit programs, and assist in grievance investigations and labor negotiations preparation. The position also includes leading training for safety-related programs and coordinating various leave programs such as FMLA and STD. The HR Generalist will also play a key role in supporting plant wellness programs and employee recognition initiatives, as well as completing special HR projects as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and process biweekly payrolls for the plant facility.
  • Post open jobs and conduct pre-screening recruiting efforts for full-time and temporary help positions.
  • Perform various human resource activities according to established policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Recruit non-exempt roles including writing and posting ads, sourcing applicants, interviewing, and complying with recordkeeping requirements.
  • Provide support to the exempt-level recruiting process as required.
  • Maintain accurate applicant flow logs and collect all data required to assist in the completion of the annual Affirmative Action Plan.
  • Coordinate onboarding and orientation processes for new employees.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee-related data in HRIS; attendance and safety records and other applicable systems/files.
  • Prepare monthly plant safety report.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding benefit programs, policy administration, labor agreement, etc. and educate and support employees in the use of the self-service applications.
  • Assist in gathering information to support grievance investigation and labor negotiations preparation.
  • Lead training and coordination of several safety-related programs including Respiratory Program; First Aid/CPR/AED, Safety Shoes and Glasses, etc.
  • Coordinate various leave programs including FMLA, STD, etc.
  • Assist and coordinate the plant Wellness Programs, United Way campaign and employee recognition and award programs.
  • Complete HR special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or similar field of study; Associate's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration with equivalent experience.
  • 2-4 years of experience in Human Resources role, preferably in a manufacturing setting.
  • Previous experience supporting a manufacturing facility, particularly in a unionized environment.
  • General knowledge of HR laws, i.e., FMLA, HR compliance, etc.
  • Payroll processing experience, preferred.
  • Knowledge and proficiency of HRIS, preferably Workday.
  • Strong technical skills/aptitude and proficiency in MS Office programs.
